It is indeed news. Especially because not only were we sold the war, but I think our leaders tried to sell us the peace prematurely, and this is direct evidence of their "hastiness".

When a reporter is gunned down merely because he is holding a camera, that is news. Some people in America (and elsewhere) are not aware just how dangerous the situation is in Iraq. Some people in America do not realize just how easy it is to get killed in Iraq, even if you are perfectly innocent. There are many casualties of importance to someone who have been killed in Iraq, but this one gives people an idea of just how random the violence can be, from our own soldiers. People in the US would know that firemen were killed, or that police were killed, but now people in the US know you can be killed in Iraq because you are carrying a videocamera, even when you have asked a US soldier if you can shoot background pictures. That's an important piece of news for people in the US to have.
