Exactly. California partially deregulated their energy market and created the worst of both worlds. Blaming the free market for the subsequent meltdown is kicking a straw dog.

I disagree, because I do not believe that an efficient competitive market is possible in the energy space. Can't find my previous post on the subject, by the following was a side discussion the context of the recent outage:

Basically, since the entry cost to the energy market is so high, it does not have the ample supply of competition necessary for an efficient market. Therefore, IMHO, no 'deregulated energy market' is possible without the danger of the same manipulation that hit California, and the same rotting effect on infrastructure as has hit the entire nation.
