New patent application.

Modified electrochemical hydrogen storage alloy having increased capacity, rate capability and catalytic activity.

....the instant alloy materials have reduced the electrical formation requirement thereof to just three cycles in consumer, cylindrical cells and also EV batteries. This reduction in formation cycles is ten fold over the prior art base alloy. Therefore, production times and costs are reduced, and throughput is increased...

Reducing the formation cycles by a factor of 10 is a very significant development IMO. I have seen the banks of finished battery packs going through the charge/discharge cycles to "fix" them at their best storage capability. Although the process is automated, it consumes large amounts of power, and takes up a lot of factory floor space. Surely this will reduce the manufacturing costs.

The increased capacity, rate capability and catalytic activity of the new alloy is very significant also.
