Look at social attitudes and practices on abortion, gay rights, unmarried couples, interracial couples, women in senior positions, affirmative action, environmental issues....all are radically different than they were even 30 years ago.

I would see the 90's as the inexorable continuation of long-term trends in a steadily more liberal society. Was anything rolled back?

How do you measure and define the country moving to the right? Reagan was a social rightwinger in name only, from what I see, government by anecdote and sound bite rather than any lasting change in social terms.

The 1990s was a period in which the traditional commercial news outlets, printed, televised, and radioed, had to contend with the radical outlets subsidised by Murdoch and the Moonies.
