And had their been a party thirty years ago that ran on a PC platform, it would have gotten less than 1 percent of the vote. I think the issue is not how many people favor something, it's knowing when and how to stop once your momentum gets going. Some die-hard civil righters don't recognize that it's time to stop. Some die-hard evangelists wouldn't either.

I'm not suggesting that the US would ever become a theocracy, officially, at the national level any more than it would ever become a federal crime to hurt the feelings of a minority. But I can imagine vigilante groups at the local level going around measuring women's skirts to make sure they're not too short. Or banning bellybuttons. Or displaying the Ten Commandments in public buildings. Hmmmm, yes, seems to me that the last one has already happened. <g>
