You may be right. The 21st century guy has been predicting a top since May (or earlier). You may wish to revise your thesis, though. A low VIX won't predict (very accurately) a top or tops in a bull market, but can we say the same about a bear market, or a generally sideways market?

Gottfried, I've become convinced by looking at the VIX in the late 90's (and lately) that it works like a charm in bear markets and doesn't work worth a damn in bull markets.

Hence the failure to be of any value over the last 6 months.
