FOR: SUR AMERICAN GOLD CORPORATION TSX VENTURE SYMBOL: SUR AUGUST 20, 2003 - 14:08 ET Sur American Gold Corporation: Assay Values up to 118.7 g/t Gold; Widespread Gold Mineralization Encountered from Trench Sampling at Comval Project, Philippines VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Sur American Gold Corporation is very pleased to advise that widespread gold mineralization has been encountered during initial trenching of at the Company's Compostela Valley Province ("COMVAL") Gold Project in the Eastern Mindanao Mineral Belt, Philippines. More than 40 potential gold bearing structures and several wide zones of lower grade mineralization have so far been discovered in the 15 km long by 3 km wide gold bearing zone. Preliminary trench sampling assay results from only 12 of these structures indicates that potentially economic gold mineralization occurs in many of the structures. Highlights: Northern Area (Panag) - 118.7g/t gold over 1.8metres and 8.95g/t gold over 1.1metres from the 1100 metres long Ugpo vein. The separation between the 2 samples was 700 metres. Gold grades of the eight samples taken along the 1100 metres of the Ugpo vein varied from a high of 118.7 g/t au to a low of 0.005 g/t au with a weighted average of 19.93 g/t au and average vein width of 1.62 metres. - 7.54 g/t gold over 1.5 metres from the 500 metre long Balajadia vein. Central Area (Suriganonon) - 10.0 g/t gold over 12 metres from the 300 metre long Eliza vein. Southern Area (Batoto/Tarale) - 28.83 g/t gold over a 2 metre portion of the St Rafael Vein at Batoto. This trench sample only represents a small portion of the 10 metre wide structure which at this location was largely removed during a small open cut operation more than 20 years ago. - Widespread gold mineralization was confirmed over a large area at Batoto. In order to define high and low grade areas in more detail a program consisting of 2 metre trench sampling over a large area has commenced. The Company will report the results of this program when completed. - More than 50% of the vein trench values received to date contain values in excess of 1 g/t gold which is a very high percentage given the particulate nature of gold. All sampling is personally undertaken by experienced technical personnel who each have more than 15 years experience in correct sampling practices. The sampling team is supervised on site by the Company's Chief Geologist. All sampling practices are personally approved by Independent Geological Consultant Mr. Ian Cooper Bsc (Hons) M.Aus.IMM and Mr Rennie Blair Msc, FAusIMM, the President of Sur American Gold Corporation who are both qualified persons as defined by National Policy 43-101. All final samples are assayed by McPhar Laboratories in Manila. McPhar (Philippines), an ISO 9002 accredited laboratory. Sur American Gold Corporation trades on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol "SUR". The Company's directors, management and technical team are very experienced in all facets of the mineral resource industry and are focused on increasing shareholder value by exploring in the high potential magmatic arc of the western Pacific.
