Russia hopes to have its share in the process of restoring Iraq since economic sanctions against this country have been lifted, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov voiced his opinion to journalists during his business trip to the Vologda region commenting on the Russian President's decree on lifting economic sanctions against Iraq. The decree was signed on August 18 in accordance with the UN Security Council's Resolution 1483 as of May 22, 2003. Responding to an RBC question, Kasyanov stressed that this decree had been expected because Russia was following the UN's decision. Kasyanov believes that Russian companies will manage to reestablish old ties with this country. The lifting of sanctions will promote the development of the machine building sector, he thinks.
