A typical hack of an unprotected machine is to turn it into an ftp server for music downloads. Check your hard drive to see how much of the storage capacity is in use and whether it is a lot more than the last time you checked.

If the data flow is more modest, that sounds like a spybot I had once. Do you use Quotetracker? It installs a pretty active spybot.

Suggestion: get Zonealarm free version and put it on every box you have. Works great and the price is right.

Also run Spybot.
