"A magic bullet that lit up my brain"

And I who thought magic bullets were supposed to kill cancer cells. Anyhow, that was a quote from an ABC News piece on memory-restoring drugs that the network carried yesterday. The person interviewed had taken part in Cortex's MCI trial and had either been given a very potent placebo of Cortex's drug CX516.

The piece in written form is available at

For the time being there is also a videoclip available at abcnews.com

ABC did their thing in cooperation with Business Week, who also runs an article on the same theme.

The "guy" referenced in the ABC piece was interviewed in the Business Week article and gave the following recollection of the effect of the drug (or the placebo):

C.L. took nine capsules of CX516 daily for 12 weeks this spring. The impact was immediate. "At the start of the trial, I could remember less than five words out of a list of 20. By the second week, I could get 14 out of 20. There was a very, very appreciable enhancement." He has since finished his part in the study and says it was "heartbreaking" to go off the drug. "I've been thinking of some other way to get it, and I don't give a damn if it's legal or illegal."

Yes, nine capsules is a lot. CX516 is not very potent and the current trial serves more as a proof-of-concept study than anything else. But still, if it works it works.

Finally and as if this was not enough there was also a very good radio interview with Roger Stoll on World Talk RadioBioTech Today. The meaty part starts at the 3 min 50 sec mark. Before that there are just radio advertisments and the like.

It seems as if Cortex is gearing up for their first financing for so many years. Considering how thinly traded the stock is, an increase in interest for the company should be helpful for the share price.
