Yes, I remember. But it was not because Chelsea was getting into trouble. The press started in on how ugly and gangly she was (I believe she was just 12 or 13 at the time). They were becoming cruel, and I don't know any mother who would not whack them upside the head if they treated their daughter that way.

We will never know what would have happened if Chelsea had been a bad kid, and gotten into trouble with alcohol and drugs.

The point is that the Republican right has taken the mantle of 'family values' and 'morality' as a party plank. Given that, it is strange indeed that a blind eye is turned to how these families really are turning out. Drugs, alcohol, affairs, divorce, growing pot, not only do not line up with any 'family values' I know of, but have drawn a strange muteness from the press.

Yet another hypocracy of the right.
