Problem is leadership. Dems pander to the Green Moose and republicans pander to lily white Suburbia. We need a backup in case we cant influence the production side of things in the mideast. And influencing the production side is not a given in the short run. We may face disruption by al quaeda both in iraq and saudi at the same time. And i am not certain that the american people have the nerve to fight these terrorists to the death and sustain casualties doing so. We would appear stronger if we started drilling in alaska and taxing suvs. Perhaps we could even start building a rail system to replace the hundreds of thousands of trucks on the roads each day. mike
