Northern Mining receives mining licence for Tulawaka

2003-11-13 12:41 ET - News Release

Mr. Carlos Bertoni reports

NORTHERN MINING: MINING LICENSE GRANTED FOR TULAWAKA GOLD PROJECT, TANZANIA

The Tulawaka gold project has been granted a special mining licence (no. SML 157-2003) by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Tanzania.

The application for the mining licence had been submitted on Sept. 19, 2003, by Pangea Minerals Ltd., a Tanzanian company controlled by Pangea Goldfields Inc. The Tulawaka project is a 30/70 joint venture between MDN and Pangea Goldfields, the project operator, a wholly owned subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation.

The joint venture had already obtained the approval of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project, a statutory requirement to precede the application for a special mining licence, on Sept. 24, 2003. Other principle project permits and agreements are in the advanced stages of negotiation.

The special mining licence is the statutory critical path for the project and provides the legal basis to proceed with the commercial development of the Tulawaka East zone gold deposit.
