I might agree that Bush himself was convinced, but I also think the ignorance defense is valid for him. He was subjected to a tag-team set of daily briefings where Rumsfeld and Condaleeza Rice would tell him what they wanted him to believe, and they never,never exhibit any doubts about what they want him to believe.. Bush himself does not have the skills or knowledge base to know when they are pulling his chain.

That still leaves Bush responsible. If he is not up to the job he should quit, this isn't the baseball commisioner job after all.

I think it's more like Saudi Arabia is a cauldron of Islamists, so lets go next door and knock off Saddam. He's got as much oil as the Saudis do, and it's a more secular nation that might have a chance at democracy.

Then later we can work on Saudi Arabia from our new base of operations...Iraq
