Platinum story..

news.ft.com

Platinum prices went within a whisker of breaking their 23-year highs on Wednesday, driven by speculative investors who have pushed metal prices up across the board in recent weeks.

Spot platinum peaked at $705 a troy ounce, its highest since reaching a 23-year record of $708 on March 10, but failed to hold above $700 and was trading at $697/$702 late in the European session, up $1 from New York's late quote on Tuesday.

Alan Williamson, precious metals analyst at HSBC, said platinum prices had been pushed higher by speculative funds, which are holding their biggest position in Comex platinum futures since February 2000.

sounds a bit ominous...
