I don't think that counts as a real pain. Pain is when you age given a choice on a ballot: Either double sales tax or repeal Prop 13. By this time the state will be on a verge of default, so new borrowing will not be possible.

OK, I know I'm a pessimist. You are not. Do you have a scenario in which California gets out of this mess unscathed?
