" I heard nothing but CRYING from Palo Alto residents"
you didnt quote anything for the residents, but I understand that the POLITICIANs tell them WATCH OUT or they are going to cut JUST us!. Ridiculas CUT THEM ALL.

"The reason the legislature acts the way it does is due to pressure from voters"

Sure, we want them to tell us exactly what we want to hear. WERE GETTING MORE THEN OUR FAIR SHARE. Elect us again. Bah Cut 'em bring in the new rascals cause these rascals spend to much.

"If voters said , to hell with it, cut my services I don't care... "

Not likely, but how about cut 20% ACROSS THE BOARD. then on a relative basis we are equal. those living on high society in a relative form still do. Those in trouble. there still in trouble. TOUGH

I beleive given a specific budget they will get the same services (maybe with less people) done that need to be done. That how businesses cope with downturns. It hurts and its not fair. OK there will be good times again.

"I mean you are not suggesting that the california legislature is on a spending binge with absolutely no support from the population"

Yes I'm suggesting that the spending binge is create by govt "employees" taking huge chunks of money and filtering down what they can to the masses. You ever look at the ratio of superintendants/ administration to students in this state (Dont mean to pick on education, just was an easy target)

Cut the spending, we throw out all the rascals , bring in new rascals (campaigning on limited spending i hope). That IS the responsible thing to do. Because you will NEVER run out of the governments appetite for money even at 100% taxes. And they will always try to convince us its for our own good and that were entitled over those other people.

Sorry no sympathy for your lame, JUST RAISE THE TAXES ON THOSE (PROP !#) guys. CUT EM ALL! We dont have the money anymore.

...."I heard nothing but CRYING from Palo Alto residents, most of which pay almost nothing in taxes"....

"Over and over again Courts have said there is nothing sinister in so arranging one's affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everybody does so, rich and poor, and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands. Taxes are enforced exactions, not voluntary contributions. to demand more in the name of morals is mere cant."
