It is not where our laws come from. Our laws come from English common law (and totally Roman Civil Law)- and common law borrowed quite a bit from the ROMANS (thought there is some argument about this- as some assert it came primarily from the Angles and Celts and Normans. The Romans were quite the little lawyers, As were the Greeks, who the Romans stole from liberally. Would you care to know about reinsurance among the ancient Greeks? Fascinating stuff.

We've come up with lots of good reasons to "change" it (even though it isn't a "change" if you read your founding fathers)- but you are too partisan to evaluate the reasons.
