Ayn Rand (note the correct spelling) is not my idea of a role model, not only in her rather unrealistic economics but also in the dubious morals of her "virtues of selfishness".

Her books are romantic novels heavily influenced by her childhood in the former Soviet Union (where she lived until the age of eight, if memory serves me well). I guess she didn't like it much there - her books are tributes to capitalism, where, at one point, everybody in a place is a company-owner capitalist (I kid you not. This is in Atlas Shrugged.)

Highly romanticised albeit aptly worded, her ideas are a bit disconnected from harsh reality of certain situations. Isr-Pal conflict is probably one of them. Like below:

Israel is a free, Westernized country, which recognizes the individual rights of its citizens (such as their right to property and freedom of speech). It uses military force only in self-defense, in order to protect itself.

Despite her shortcomings, Ayn Rand was not stupid. The only way a philosopher of her caliber can make the above statement, imho, is if she is completely unaware of how Israel treats the non-Jews under its power.

Or, one might like to remember that Ayn Rand is Jewish, and that her views may have been affected by a rather unfortunate bias...

By the way, Ayn Rand died in early 1980s. Her understanding of the relative height of Israel re moral ground may have changed a bit had she lived to see the last twenty years.

Whereas in Israel any & all citizens are targets...

Big difference in the ability to select targets. Also, big difference between defending one's homeland (against civilian settlers) and invading another country. Incidentally, it's not just Israel that's a free-fire zone. The same goes for Palestine, children included:

<<< . . . Defence for Children International, a Geneva-based human rights group, said that 463 Palestinians under the age of 18 have been killed by Israeli forces or Jewish settlers since the beginning of the Palestinian uprising almost three years ago. Speaking at a news conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Catherine Hunter, the research coordinator for DCI in the occupied territories, said, "Contrary to Israeli propaganda, DCI documentation shows that only a small percentage of children lose their lives in or around demonstrations or clashes, while most are killed in or around the home or on their way to somewhere." . . . >>>
