Thanks for the sources on Algeria.
Interesting historical comparison. Wonder if Bush II, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, or Powell have studied that conflict. Wonder if the Algerian-French war is in the curriculum at West Point and the Political Science departments at the major US universities?

'Obviously you don't have a clue....'

Ah, perhaps, but you sir are belgian, and in the morning i shall be sober .... if you'd read more than the first line Gus, and maybe followed the posts back a bit, you'd have seen what i was talking about .... briefly, that fear is not the primary motivator keeping the independent democracies from handing legitimacy to the neocons' backroom scheme in re Iraq, that it is rather good common sense suffused with rage at the neocons' arrogance ..... which does not transpose well over to US-France-Algeria, as i don't think the US had a pig in that trough really, and probably didn't see the colony as vitally strategic, so neither fear nor rage came into it

Interesting posts you put up at times Gus, some thought-provoking parallels and novel ideas, often i read them and think to myself, what .... your ginboat diplomacy theory was particularly fascinating, with its portent of a potted Putin - '...However, ginboat diplomacy was still the overall paradigm in XXth-century intl. relations .... So, just as Hitler attacked Western Europe first, Putin devised the 911 terrorist strikes before engaging his armies against the Islamic threat...' - #reply-16607328
