Did you notice the thrust of the proposed amendment--denying the accoutrements of marriage to those not married. Interesting tack.

I, too, am having a lot of fun watching the culture war, to the extent that I can detach myself from the pain of the real damage it's doing. There's a real art in being able to drop in and drop out on a dime. Go, Judge Joe, go!

It is not, nor has it ever been a private arrangement. That's called a clandestine affair. A marriage is a relationship in which the couple has made the highest level of commitment possible between two people. They make it publicly, because they are requesting that the community honor and support them in keeping their bond intact.
