SHANGHAI, China (AP) — A real-estate tycoon was taken hostage and killed by a gunman who broke into his home in northwestern China, police said Thursday.

The slaying of Liu Enqian, head of the Gansu Changqing real estate company, was the third reported attack on a Chinese millionaire this year, following the killings of a steel company president and a textile tycoon.

Liu was killed Sunday in Lanzhou, capital of remote Gansu province, a public security spokesman said, confirming state media reports. His assailant later killed himself, said the spokesman in Lanzhou, who gave only his surname, Zheng.

Uh-oh! Definitely has the smell of heavy handedness (corruption) by one of the top dogs! That's really too bad. Hopefully the displaced residents get adequate compensation, or there will be more tycoon killings.
