The claim is simply factual. The flag was created for the Confederacy, and used during the several years of the Civil War. That is was maintained to demonstrate the sense of injury and defiance that was felt after the Confederacy's defeat in the war does not thereby make it part of the common heritage, nor ennoble it in the least.

Do you think that the Bible is commonly taught in Great Books Programs, even in state schools, because of religion, or because of it cultural importance? Similarly, there is no establishment of religion if the Ten Commandments are used, and they need not be construed as posted for religious reasons, regardless of what you want to assert without proof<g>.........

By the way, with regard to the Christian moaning and groaning:

It is not so much because of the loss of privilege as it is because it is so obviously not worth a court case to get rid of the Ten Commandments, and therefore is a demonstration of the depth of hostility felt by the secular elite towards Christianity, which raises the alarms. It is what I feel when someone merely spouts the PLO line at me, without trying to balance it with Israeli accounts: if you didn't have hostility towards Jews, why would you swallow the propaganda of terrorists hook, line, and sinker?.........
