We made that mistake once before...It let to an invasion of Afghanistan by the same groups of military guerrillas that eventually established the Taliban system of rule.

You assume that resistance is massive, I do not. You assume that it will grow in the long run, I do not. You assume that the attempt to reconstitute Iraqi security forces will make little difference, I do not. I am perfectly happy to allow Iraqis to find their own solutions, as long as we do not cut and run prematurely, before giving them a chance to work out an amicable solution to the problem of maintaining rival communities in some sort of national government, and to fight against either the reestablishment of the Ba'athist regime, or of a fundamentalist regime..........
