We are killing, imprisoning, and disarming members of the resistance every day. If they are a small enough number, than eventually resistance will become little more than a nuisance, if it continues at all.

At this time, there is a growth in the terrorist infiltration of Iraq, which is a different matter than the internal resistance. I believe it will reach an apogee soon enough. Now, terrorists generally do one of two things: they either engage in suicide missions, in which case, they themselves helpfully reduce their number as they go along, or they look for soft targets, in order to make it easy to inflict damage and get away. If they continue to hit soft targets, the Iraqi population will become more and more fed up. Already, Iraqis are expressing outrage over the attack on the UN mission. The fact is, outsiders are not likely to survive within Iraq if the populace hates them, which is increasingly the case.

As for the Iraqi security forces, I do not think that those who have persisted in pursuing that career path are terribly concerned about retaliation, or they would drop out. Of course, we will have to wait for the situation to evolve........
