It seems likely there was significant institutional buying this afternoon yes. First we have nearly double the average daily volume. Then we have many block trades going through. I filtered out all trades smaller than 50k in time and sales, and here is a sampling. Quite a large number of good sized blocks. The size of the trades is the fifth column over. That one for 270,000 shares caught my eye, and I decided to look for more: us.f1f.yahoofs.com (interesting enough, the graphic seems to show up better in netscape than internet explorer.. don't know why..)
