When a city was targeted, it was carpet bombed because the accuracy of the bombs was poor to very poor. A carpet of bombers flew over head and destroyed a carpet below. That was what the technology allowed. In WW II the countries involved the populations were totally geared to war. All people in the society were contributing to war effort.

The effects of the first bomb was really unknown. It was considered as drop one bomb and it's the same as a fleet of bombers.

War is destroying logistics and in WW II, civilians and cities, everything was part of the war machine. How people discussed it or talked about it does not change the reality. In WW II an entire country, especially in Japan, was the military force that had to be defeated.

All direct and indirect support killed Americans. That is the reality. Any way that ends the war is acceptable. And terror is about fear and the people of Japan did not fear death more than failing duty.

There is the physical reality of War and you clearly cannot think in that visualization of logic.

A city engaged in the war effort was targeted and destroyed.
