You are comparing apples with oranges.

Davis speaks only about his outlook on life and his approach to dealing with it. How do you see these situations as comparable.

The concern with Ashcroft's prayer meetings (I think you meant him rather than Rumsfeld, although maybe he did it too) was that, even though the prayer meetings were supposedly voluntary, there was a great deal of anxiety about whether it could affect your career or not if you didn't attend. It sends the same impression of possible bias on the part of those in power that the Rock does, whether it is intended to or not. I think Jewel has made those points very clearly and well.

Why was there not a discussion about the placing of the rock with the other justices? Why did Moore not realize that even if he had the legal RIGHT, common sense and respect for what the court represents might require some mutual cooperation. Becuase you have the power to do something, doesn't mean that it is a wise thing to do. It was, imo, the act of a petty tyrant with an agenda and the way in which he carried it out strengthens my feeling about that.

Grey Davis' carrying a card is hardly the same thing--more along the lines of wearing a cross, or carrying a good luck charm. Unobtrusive, might be a good word.
Actually, God wasn't much of a business help to him, was he?

I bet no one would object to Moore carrying a little card of the Ten Commandments in his robe.

All my oh so humble opinion.
