This is close to my heart----I am so greatful that my mother lived only one year after having to go to a nursing home. She was same age as Reagan and like Reagan had Alzheimers in her last 4 years. And, until the very end I was the only one she recognized and knew.

I would go to the home and play the piano in that last year-----the one thing that these dear people had left was their ability to sing songs----for some reason they could remember songs---this is very common for people with alzheimers.

Have a friend whose father has served this nation in a very major way ----he is in his 80's still not in a nursing home because he is able bodied but has alzheimers. So at Christmas last year -------I played and he was able to remember songs and thanked me for playing.

Yes, we have an obligation to take care of these very dear elderly people who contributed so much to society. Without their service to us and the nation we would not be here.
