The Arab states that shield us cannot afford to do so if their own populations go crazy in them -- and we are doing our part to make them crazy You might have a point, if our leaving them alone hadn't also made them crazy first. The Arab governments "shielded us" by directed their populations' massive discontent at us. Some shielding. Since we are going to continue to rely on Mideast oil no matter what, we are going to have to take on the Islamists and make their strategy an unprofitable one. For the past twenty years - until 9/11/01 - it was generally a profitable one.
