"i can't even believe i brought it up.<g>"

why? plenty of people are plagued by the same circumstances.

win98 and winme are notorious for bleeding off resources.

so you are not alone, and people have been trying to halt the process, or stem the flow, for quite some time.

what you have done to date, stopping unessential processes from starting, is one of the best remedies there is.

lots and lots of sites have devoted themselves to the resolution of this problem. the fact that there are so many suggestions for fixing the problem is testimony to the enormity of it.

follow up to the low system resources issue on the ME operating system..

what i realized was that i didn't start getting the low system resources message until after i downloaded zap4, my thinking is the program added a sufficient drain on system resources that i began getting the low resource message on a machine with the ME operating system (so far not a problem on the XP machine i run)

but rather than uninstall zap4 for now i decided to try freeing up some additional resources (having already removed unnecessary applications from the start up)by tweaking the power saving scheme which according to this site is also draining resources

if this tweak doesn't solve the problem i may go back to an earlier version of ZA

longer term, i believe the solution will be to install XP on this machine, as the ME system low resource problem is an architecture issue which has been addressed by the NT based operating systems
