" [That the US side had an economic advantage of 4 to 1 over the Axis in WW2.] Obviously you've never met anyone who fought for the Axis, LOL. Look, everyone involved in a war believes that it was just barely won and was a real close thing, but to get a true sense of the relative powers you need to look at the view from something farther away than the nose of a grunt. Re: "Nazi Germany conquered, or held off, the British empire, the French, the Russians, AS WELL as the United States, for each of those 5 years. " This is ignorant bullshit. Unless by "conquered or held off" you really mean "lost". I suppose by your definition the Germans were "holding off" the Russians as their troops pushed into Berlin, LOL. Some "hold off". Winston Churchill and Yamamoto both disagreed with you, knowing that awakening the "sleeping giant" would mean the end of the war for the Axis. Re: "As for symmetrical warfare, tell that to the Germans who fought Soviet, French, and Italian partisans, each of which conducted uncounted acts of sabotage, terrorism (against collaborators), and espionage against the German occupiers. " Maybe you never heard about the "werewolf" campaign against the allies in Germany though it's been recently discussed in the thread. No, the war was quite symmetrical. Hell, there were even some German military personnel who were executed in the US for sabotage. Nor was the dirty part of WW2 a significant part of the war. The war was won or lost on the basis of troops controlling the ground. The espionage and sabotage were not what determined victory. Re: "And then should we discuss the Japanese experience in French Indo-China, as well as China? " This was another classic example of asymmetrical warfare, unless you want to begin a fantasy discussion of the Chinese experience during their invasion of France, LOL. -- Carl
