Maybe it's just a guy thing.

What a sexist thing to say. I'm disappointed in you.

Do we accuse you and X of having a feminist thing when you deny that people have some obligation to exert personal responsibility?

I will hope, despite appearances, that there is more understanding out there concerning this than there appears to be. I will hope that it is simply a case of miscommunication.

And related to this topic, I started reading "Nigger, the history of a troublesome word"

januarymagazine.com

In this book not only are there heartbreaking stories of old racial injustices, but you will find out that Tiger Woods was tied up in kindergarten by classmates and called nigger, and Michael Jordan hit a little girl in elementary school who called him that. I hear from some white people that racial problems are "over", or, if anything, now the whites are discriminated against. I think the disconnect between the real oppression still out there which people of color face, and the perception that there is no problem, by many whites, may be a huge and growing problem we will have to face one day. I don't favor affirmative action, but I don't favor pretending prejudice doesn't exist, either.

Anyway, if you haven't read the book, I recommend it.
