<So I suppose they are stuck with Arafat for now.>

I'm glad you have backed off from joining the "let's kill people to solve problems" chorus. There are more than enough people already championing assassination and other kinds of murder.

I hope... that mankind will at length, as they call themselves reasonable creatures, have reason and sense enough to settle their differences without cutting throats; for in my opinion there never was a good war, or a bad peace. - Benjamin Franklin

So I suppose they are stuck with Arafat for now.

If the next round starts up in earnest, I would lay my money on Arafat being deported this time.

debka's latest headlines, hopeful if true. Could Joscka really end the EU's love affair with Yasser? I'll believe it when I see it:

DEBKAfile Special Report: Dahlan forces begin Saturday night blocking southern Gaza Strip tunnels through which Palestinian smuggle weapons from Egypt, also deploy in northern Gaza Strip to prevent terrorists firing Qassam missiles into Israel. First three tunnels sealed.

Palestinian Authority began acting under uncompromising pressure from the United States, the EU, Egypt and Israel to finally dismantle terrorists. All parties watching to see if Dahlan will go through with crackdown.

In Seattle, Bush warned Palestinian Authority if they wanted own state they must dismantle terrorist networks. Saturday, US president linked suicide attacks in Jerusalem and Baghdad as part of militant campaign to impose “totalitarian vision” and vowed to fight terror “until we prevail”.

Thursday night, Mubarak shouted at Arafat: “We won’t let you plunge Arab world in fresh bloodbath. Your head is on the block!” EU’s Fischer threatened Arafat with final break if he denies Abu Mazen government forces to deal with terrorists.

DEBKAfile: Mubarak’s adviser al Baz in Ramallah Friday warned Palestinians their current course led to catastrophe. He failed to persuade Arafat to relinquish grip on security forces for crackdown on terrorist groups. Unable or unwilling to force ceasefire on Palestinian groups, Abu Mazen and Dahlan demanded that all sides declare ceasefire, including Israel.
