The big difference was that tons and tons of support material created for the War effort became surplus and provided men, material and equipment that had already been paid for. And the republicans not in power did not have the treasonous proclivities of dems today. Getting things into virtually land locked Iraq where I wonder do they have any trains is quite different than getting stuff into western Europe. The biggest difference was the surviving people knew how to build and repair a modern society. Iraq had three decades run by the mafia.
