<Where would the world be without the history of the draft in the USA? Think of the Civil War, WWI & WWII.> More free and more wealthy and more happy. Instead of involuntary conscripts being sent to their deaths and the widows and their children being given a medal, a pat on the head and a derisory widow's benefit, the soldiers and their families would have been properly rewarded according to what the market would bear, instead of the cowardly fat cats hiding back home, taking the profits deriving from the efforts of the low-paid conscripts. Maybe you think it's ethical to force somebody to go and fight and die against their will and for others back home to sit safely and enjoy the profits, fun and freedom. That's how slavery worked. Force others to make you rich. Maybe you think that's a good idea, but there's been a trend away from that age old tribal chiefs and warriors feudal style for centuries in the semi-civilized world. Cowards hide behind others who are forced into service against their will. ` Would you whip recalcitrant serfs, shoot them or put them in gaol and steal whatever assets they have? I'm interested in how you would enforce this freedom. Suppose your niggers like Cassius Clay point out that they don't have a quarrel with no Vietcong who never called him nigger. What would you do to such cowards "hiding behind their sheep and ideals" to make them do what you want and accept your ideals, your ethics? Personally, I didn't think Cassius was hiding. It's the conscriptionists who are the cowardly hiders, seeking to hide behind slaves. Freedom does have a high price, as Cassius Clay found. As many have found when opposing authoritarian thieving murderous thugs who presume that others' lives are theirs' to dispose of as they see fit. We the Sheeple know how to deal with them. Some of the methods are quite ugly [yukk, look what happened to Ceaucescu, Mussolini, Uday and Qusay]. Please don't side with the Saddams of this world. There are enough bad guys around to deal with. Evil doers galore. King George II and Bill Clinton in their youth knew to dodge the draft and maintain their freedom against the imposts of the mad megalomaniacs. If you aren't prepared to pay the price of freedom, you don't deserve it anyway. That means paying whatever it takes to attract soldiers.
