Cialis impotence drug gets approval in Mexico

Thursday August 28, 9:27 am ET

NEW YORK, Aug 28 (Reuters) - The impotence drug Cialis, which is awaiting regulatory approval in the United States, has been approved for sale in Mexico, the drug's makers said on Thursday.

Cialis, which will compete with Pfizer Inc.'s (NYSE:PFE - News) Viagra and GlaxoSmithKline Plc's (London:GSK.L - News) Levitra, is expected to win U.S. approval late this year.

Cialis is the product of a joint venture between Eli Lilly & Co. (NYSE:LLY - News) and Icos Corp. (NasdaqNM:ICOS - News). The drug has now been approved in 40 countries. The companies said Mexico is one of the top 10 world markets for erectile dysfunction therapies.
