<What we should have done then is to accept saddams annexation of kuwait> What we should have done was to avoid unilaterally annexing Iraq for ourselves. This puts us at a level that is close to Saddam in foreign policy. Whether it is Iraq unilaterally invading oil-rich Kuwait or the US invading oil-rich Iraq -- it is still wrong. Had we wanted to complete the work of the UN with respect to Iraq -- a worthy objective -- then we would have to do so through the UN, rather than act unilaterally.
