if you (genuinely) consider it an insult, it means that you have been offended. In which case, I am left with some choices. It is not an automatic conclusion that I am at fault.

What choices? Suppose I just sulk in having been insulted and assume that you knew you had insulted me and intended to, but I don't confront you. So you may never know. What are your choices?

You didn't answer my questions about insults in other languages or insults not recognized as such. I think those are pertinent questions to the discussion. Do you have answers?

So, let me see whether I understand.

There is a form, or eidos, to use Platonic concepts, of insult. It is the definition of insult of which all insults partake. So whenever anything is said, at the moment it is said, it is either an insult or not an insult, because it does or does not partake of the eidos of insult. Every comment ever made, at the moment of utterance, falls on one or the other side of the fence, insult or non-insult. Is that a fair statement of your position?
