It's a myth to claim that anyone said
"Saddam Hussein was never interested in acquiring nuclear weapons."

What has been shown is that Saddam was unable to acquire nuclear weapons or the necessary parts to build them. It's not really an issue of what Saddam's interests were, it is an issue of what his capabilities were. Bush's "brain trust" knew there was no nuclear threat.
