You think all lifers "made a career out of serving their country?" Think again. Many "lifers" have made a living out of taking advantage of the often incompetent bureaucracy that is the army.

Some of them made a living in Vietnam in the black market. In the jungle we sometimes had shortages of G.I. gear that was readily available on the black market in places like Saigon. When we were resupplied by chopper, the "hot meal" that came in ammo cans was usually hard-boiled eggs and strips of bacon while the lifers ate steaks and fried chicken. Our cold drink was a nasty tasting thing called "squelch" while the lifers drank the root beer and cokes.

And when the metal was flying where were all those career men who "made a living out of serving their country?" Only a handful of them were in the jungle and, of those, most of them were there to get their ticket punched and then out so fast you forgot they were even there. Among the non-officers in in my company in 69-70 there were usually NO career enlisted men in the jungle. Too many men were getting killed and they found a way out.

So when I say some lifers were incredibly ignorant, don't talk to me about dissing "those who spent made a career of serving their country......" I've been there and I know better.

Jlallen, re: >>"Why don't you point out the "ignorant" part of my opinioin and we'll see who the ignorant one really is...."<<

Which post? So many choices, so little time.

Just joking, I know which post you meant. The thing is that I already pointed it out but you were too dense to get it. I'll repost the posts so that you can take another shot at it:

Jlallen, re: >>"and the war is due to the neglect of the Clinton/Gore Administration to address the problem of global terror...."<<

Sure, the war in Iraq, the soldiers who've died there, the enormous expenditures there, the future lives lost and wealth squandered, the jobs lost in this country, the incidences of rape in this country, the loss of American credibility and friendship in the world, the loss of "relevance" of the U.N., the transfer of jobs overseas, the budget crisis of virtually every state, local and state pressures for tax increases, social security and medicare shortfalls, the national health care price increases, the lack of health care insurance for many of our children, the crisis in N. Korea, the alarming increase in the scope of worldwide terrorist organizations---the list goes on. ALL the fault of the Clinton-Gore Administration. NONE the fault of the Bush-Cheney Administration.

That Clinton-Gore duo were sure busy, weren't they?

DO YOU EVER LISTEN TO YOURSELF????

Jlallen, sometimes I start to laugh at your posts thinking that you're surely joking. After all, NO ONE could really be that ignorant, right? The thing that stops me is that I remember that there were a lot of lifers in the army that really WERE that ignorant. Who knows, maybe you really are serious.

---------------------------------------------------------

You see, it was your own post that pointed out the "ignorant" part of your opinion. Anyone that can find a way to blame the previous administration for everything that goes wrong during the middle of the current administration needs to "listen to [himself]." It's not enough to SAY that everything that is good is Bush and everything that's bad is Clinton. That kind of simpleton thinking makes me wonder if it isn't "free internet day" at Bellview mental hospital.

The best one is where on every piece of upbeat economic news, you cheer the Bush administration and then, when the news turns grim again, you bemoan the legacy of the Clinton administration. All the while you maintain that all the good news during the Clinton 8 years was from policies adopted years before he took office, while the Bush good news happens because of steps he took in the last few months. Get some perspective.
