I think, if I read her original thinking correctly, that even if the recipient rejects the intended insult and does not feel insulted, they have been insulted anyhow. So the unreceived insult is not only an insult against society, but also an insult against the person who doesn't, either from choice or ignorance, feel at all insulted.

I think that was her position. Which differs from ours.

This has been a good discussion. Calm, addressing the issues, asking and answering questions, trying to understand, respecting each other's views, not throwing up straw man arguments or ad hominum attacks, and reaching aagreement on several major issues, even if not quite all. The way dialogue on SI should be, and sadly too often isn't.
