What is funny is that people who work for SS don't pay into it either. They pay into a federal employee plan. Actually to be completely accurate, recently they were given a choice of either the Fed plan or SS. I asked a friend of mine who works there who was up over the weekend what the percentage taken out of his pay was for the federal employees plan. He didn't know. I said, "They take this thing out of your pay every single pay period and you don't know what the percentage is?" I wondered how he decided to opt for it over the SS if he didn't know the difference in cost. It came down do he trusted he'd actually see his pension staying in the Fed plan. This is a guy who has worked at SS for thirty years.
