Some times people in families are more blind to their own dynamics than even an untrained person would be- so I disagree with you. A parent MIGHT know more about the specific case of their child, but they might also be totally clueless, or even suffer misapprehensions due to emotional conflicts that even a layman could spot. It's far from a given that people will know about or understand their own environment, or their own children.
