I think the point is that you may have saved your next door neighbor's life at some point, but if you're visiting his house and he has household rules regarding spitting on the floor and farting in his wife's presence, then...

Well, a gentleman would observe those rules and not embarrass his neighbor through "perceived obligation".

<Thus you are not in a position to appreciate that the only reason NZ was still sovereign is because of the sacrifices of my country.>

Que, the USA didn't do any sacrifice at all for New Zealand. USA soldiers fighting in the islands weren't thinking, "By crikey, I'd better kill those Japanese soldiers because I don't want them taking over New Zealand". Giggle.. surely you don't really think that. USA politicians and soldiers wouldn't have even mentioned New Zealand when they were tossing up where to drop the noocular bombs in Japan.

The USA in a cowardly way hid behind the ocean until Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. Many in the USA actually supported the Nazis and certainly made big profits for some time. The USA was very late into the war against Germany.

The USA acts in what the bosses of it at the time see as being in their interests. It doesn't go rampaging around the world like Superman, saving the citizens of Metropolis. The USA is in Iraq primarily because of the oil. Not because they wanted to save Iraqis from Saddam.

You are right that the USA did a lot in defeating Germany, Italy and Japan, but not as much as the USSR did. It was a team effort. Such an arrogant attitude doesn't enamour the USA to the rest of the world.

You also make logical mistakes in thinking. A person doesn't need to be owned by your country to be able to understand why NZ is still sovereign. Just as you don't need to be a citizen of somewhere else to be in a position to think about things.

You are in good company though. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that thinking can only happen if the person doing the thinking is part of the group being discussed. That's cult-think.

You didn't have to be in David Koresh's gang in Waco to have an opinion about why he wasn't sovereign.

Sometimes it's even easier to NOT be part of the gang to do accurate thinking about things let alone things involving the gang. Distance lends perspective.
