France has a death rate of 9.05/1000/year.

With a population of about 60 million that means that during a two-month period - the duration of the heat wave - about 90,000 people are expected to die on average. The alleged 10,000 deaths have not been proven to be caused by the heat, they were derived by comparing the mortality rates.
