Very hard to get to anti-virus sites - I had to give for one machine. I expect lots of traffic is heading toward very specific points and creating local bottle necks. Speculation - Also, I would not be surprised if certain blocks of IP address with suspect activity were shut down or slowed to prevent th virueses from picking up payloads... I agree wtih Michael, this is way under reported. Compare to the Valentine's day bug or Michaelangelo virus, which were heavily covered in the press, but had much smaller effects.
