I certainly wouldn't want to see kids raised in a more institutionalized way than they are now. And I agree with you about alleged experts. I don't know any better answer than to let parents parent. But I have no illusion about the competence of far too many of them. I watch babies at the pool with their parents and see the love, attention and stimulation the kids are getting. I have no way to assess if the parents are doing things "right" or not, but they're definitely actively parenting. Too many kids are "stimulated" only by the Cartoon Network.

Of course, even the good moms and dads at the pool somehow have neglected to teach their kids to put the toys back when they're done rather than leaving them on the floor of the pool where someone could hurt a foot stepping on them. But, then, that's another issue. <g>
