It is distressing. I knew a guy who was extremely narcissistic and immature, with a dominating mother. She set him up in the haberdashery business, but he couldn't make a go of it and went bankrupt. He had a nervous breakdown, and had to be in an institution, complete with electroshock, for awhile. He was in poor shape when he came out. One of the things that happened was that he couldn't accept that failure was normal in the business world, one just moved on, nor, of course, could he accept his own responsibility in the failure, such as it may have been. He began running down the capitalist system and wondering if the Soviets (this was in the Brezhnev era) had the right idea. He drifted into Nychiren Shoshu Buddhism, a Japanese sect that expects to gain power through the recitation of a mantra before a scroll. He dreamt of becoming a rock star and getting all the girls. A sad case.......
