Ted, actually I think most illegals are hired by other minorities, including Latino and Korean. Most illegals are hired by individuals, usually Anglos. While companies do hire illegals, its dangerous. The INS do crack downs unexpectantly. That's why so much of the garment industry, a major employer of illegals, is moving to Mexico. Most illegals do odd jobs.....live off the fat of the land so to speak. Hence the overflow of anger toward all immigrants, legal or otherwise. In LA, the anger between blacks and to a lesser extent, Latinos, towards Asians had to do with the fact that Asians, primarily Koreans, own most of the commercial stores in minority neighborhoods. They 'own' their customers just like in another era the Jews 'owned' their customers. Naturally, the customers resent their Patron. The resentment is fueled by the cultural and language differences. During the riots, that resentment turned into violence against the Asians and their stores.......primarily but not exclusively. I don't understand the hypocrisy part of your statement, though. The hypocrisy comes from the Anglos who complain that the illegals are turning CA into a mess while they continue to hire the illegals to do work for them. I listen to friends complain about 'the illegal problem' but then would turn around and hire an illegal to be nanny for their babies or their gardner or handy man. I'm sure employers who hire illegals love the cheap labor. The real angry ones are the employers who have to compete against businesses hiring illegals. They're the ones paying to follow the law, while the scofflaws are saving on a bunch of costs that CA state would otherwise require them to cover. (Worker's comp, for example.) I am not sure how many companies employ illegals now. When I left, I think the companies that still were doing it in significant numbers were Asian companies employing Asian illegals. ted
